We Did Not Speak For 20 Minutes: The Power of God's Favor
The Nixon's Family Personal Testimony
My husband and me relocated to my hometown in mid-July 2004. My mother was very ill at the time and I wanted to be closer to her. She was a senior citizen and living alone. During our transition of moving from another state, our quest was to find a church home. After visiting several local churches in the community, my mother suggested visiting a church that was full of teen youth, involved with daily activities. The people were friendly and the pastor and his wife welcomed us with open arms. Their vision was to preach, teach, praise the Lord, and be a faithful witness to the Holy Scriptures. Our second visit to the church was just as powerful as the first, and the pastor let my husband (who is also a minister) speak before the congregation as a guest speaker. After the morning service was adjourned, we all sat down in the pastor's study and discussed economic development in reference to the church and its overall growth. We ran a successful youth center in another state and wanted to share our experience with grant writing, youth enrichment development projects, and adult reentry reform training. The church would be involved with the new developing plans to help add their faith based pathway which was already established in the church. They had childcare, adult training for GED, and was in the process of upgrading the usage of their gym. My husband and me were on one accord when we decided this would be our new church home. The pastor offered us an opportunity to move into a house he managed for a short period of time. We looked at the place and we all agreed that the house was idea for our family size. Working out the details of rental agreement and other concerns, we prayed together about the move. The pastor made the announcement during bible study concerning the ministry move. He was kind enough to give us money to help bring our furniture and other items from our youth center back to the city. In route, we ran into some complications in Indianapolis, Indiana. We had two other drivers traveling with us with trailer-beds attached to their truck. All of a sudden the hitch broke loose on the trailer-bed. The two drivers made a quick exit off the loop somewhere in Indianapolis, as we continued on not knowing the situation. We communicated the entire way by cellular phone. We had no clue as to where they were. If you have ever traveled through the state of Indiana, you know not to get lost in the loop! It takes you hours to find your way out of it. My husband took a near-by exit, and pulled over into an empty parking lot, next to a cluster of small homes. We did not speak to each other for twenty minutes.
